3 S.R. Johannes: School/Library Visits

School/Library Visits

I love visiting schools and libraries to talk to teens about books!  It's the whole reason I write. With my corporate background, I am very comfortable teaching kids of all ages in any forum from the classroom to an assembly.

Teachers/Faculty (prices vary)

I do professional development workshops on teaching staff how to to teach students writing across multi-modal and multi-subjects. Example: Writing tips and activities in subject areas across various genres (including science, social studies, and literature).

The Georgia Peach Author school visit is an amazing way to help young writers connect classroom instruction with the real world of writing. Shelli ... engaged my students at their level and left them with a desire to read more and write more. My students were thrilled with the practical writing tips they were able to take away from the session.
- K. Smith (Ed.S, ELA-7, North Gwinnett Middle School)

"You know you had a successful assembly when a week later the students and teachers are still talking about it and asking when the author is coming back!"
- Julie Stokes (Literary Coordinator, Dalton MS)

"The students loved meeting, talking with, and getting autographs, as well as participating in the writing workshops.  The books have literally “flown off the shelves” in the media center." - Lory Cox (Media Specialist, North Springs Charter HS)

"Having this visit was the most rewarding thing I have done in my career to promote literacy. It was incredible and our students are STILL talking about it. Very powerful, motivating and educational."- Lena Adams (Media Specialist, Adairsville HS)

"This was a wonderful experience for our students...and gave the students insight into how to become a writer.  Overall, it was a great visit that kept myself, the teachers and students all captivated!" - Jennifer Sweat (Media Specialist, Grace Snell MS)

"With savvy that usually only accompanies the most seasoned educators, S.R. Johannes captivated our students and sparked their interest in writing. She engaged them in creative writing exercises and spoke about the power of good research. Boys and girls from 9th grade to 12th were bubbling with ideas afterward."
- Shanna Miles (Media Specialist, South Atlanta HS
